Psilocybin is a naturally occurring psychedelic compound found in certain mushrooms. Research suggests it may have potential benefits for conditions such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and addiction, while also enhancing spiritual well-being and personal growth. It's important to note that psilocybin may not be suitable for everyone, and individuals considering its use should carefully assess their medical history, current medications, and personal circumstances. Consulting with a healthcare professional is advised. Furthermore, psilocybin should only be used in legal contexts and under appropriate supervision to minimize risks and maximize potential benefits.
Oregon Psilocybin Services (OPS) operates under ORS 475A, also known as the Oregon Psilocybin Services Act, which was approved by Oregon voters in November 2022. This model emphasizes psilocybin services as a health and wellness option for Clients. In Oregon, 'Psilocybin Services' include Preparation, Administration, and Integration sessions conducted by licensed Facilitators. Psilocybin products must be sourced from licensed psilocybin Manufacturers and are exclusively administered to Clients at licensed psilocybin Service Centers during Administration sessions. These services are accessible to individuals or groups aged 21 and above, without the need for a prescription or medical referral. Group administration sessions are capped at 25 Clients or the capacity of the Service Center's Administration area, whichever is smaller, regardless of the number of Facilitators present.
In the Preparation session, Clients connect with trained Facilitators in a safe environment to establish trust, explore relaxation techniques, and address any concerns. They receive comprehensive education about the psilocybin experience, including its effects. Through open dialogue, Facilitators collaborate with Clients to set intentions and cultivate a mindset for their psilocybin session. This session empowers individuals to begin their psilocybin-assisted journey with clarity and confidence within Oregon's regulated framework.
In the psilocybin administration session, Clients receive dedicated support from trained Facilitators in a licensed psilocybin Service Center. Every effort is made to ensure comfort and safety, fostering an environment where Clients can embark on their psilocybin journey feeling supported. With personalized assistance, Clients can explore their consciousness, gain insights, and undergo inner transformation within Oregon's structured environment.
The Integration session offers a supportive environment for Clients to reflect on their psilocybin experience, process insights, and integrate newfound perspectives into their lives. With trained and licensed Facilitators present, Clients have the opportunity to review safety and support planning as they navigate their emotions, insights, and changes resulting from their journey. Additionally, Facilitators assist Clients in connecting with community resources, empowering them to continue their journey towards sustained personal growth within Oregon's regulated and supportive psilocybin-assisted services.
OPS licenses facilitators, service centers, manufacturers, and laboratories, as well as issues worker permits and approves psilocybin training program curriculum. OPS investigates complaints to ensure that licensees are operating within administrative rules and will issue administrative violations if licensees are found to be out of compliance. OPS offers opportunities for members of the public to participate in shaping the section’s work by participating in Rules Advisory Committees or public hearings on rules, as well as public listening sessions that are held each year.
